Eastern Africa is one of the earliest regions where Homo sapiens are believed to have lived. The region has 19 states namely Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Tanzania are members of the East African Community. Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia are collectively called the Horn of Africa.
