Paislee Joann Shultis, 6, of New York, United States is the biological daughter of Kirk D. Shultis Jr., 32, and Kimberly Cooper Shultis, 33. The couple lost custody of their daughter to the girl’s grandmother.
On July 13, 2019, Paislee was reported missing after being taken from her grandmother’s home in Cayuga Heights, Tompkins County, New York. The grandmother also has the custody of Paislee’s older sister.
On multiple occasions, detectives searched for Paislee in the house of her grandfather Kirk D. Shultis Sr., 57, in Saugerties, Ulster County, New York but were not able to find the girl. Kirk Jr. and Kimberly live in that house.
On February 14, 2022, detectives went to Kirk Sr.’s house in Saugerties again. One of the detectives was Erik Thiele, who noticed something about the staircase leading from the back of the house into the basement that caught his attention and discovered Paislee and Kimberly hiding in a dark and wet makeshift room beneath the basement staircase.
That day, Kimberly, Kirk Jr. and Kirk Sr. were arrested. She was charged with custodial interference in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child while Paislee’s father and grandfather were each charged with felony custodial interference in the first degree and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
Paislee was returned to her grandmother. On February 16, 2022, Kimberly, Kirk Jr. and Kirk Sr. appeared in Saugerties Town Court and pleaded not guilty.
Kimberly is out on bail and will return to court on March 2, 2022 while Kirk Jr. and Kirk Sr. were released on their own recognizance and will return to court in April 2022. The court ordered the three to stay away from Paislee.
