Miss Universe 2022 crown unveiled by Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, Fred Mouawad in Bangkok, Thailand

The Miss Universe 2022 crown was revealed by Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, 43, and Fred Mouawad, 53, during a press conference at the TRUE ICON HALL on the seventh floor of ICONSIAM in Bangkok, Thailand on December 19, 2022. They were joined by Apasra Hongsakula, 75, and Natalie Glebova, 41, who won Miss Universe in 1965 and in 2005, respectively.

More than 150 local media people and VIPs attended the unveiling of the new crown, which was broadcast via JKN 18 TV channel and live streaming on Miss Universe YouTube channel and JKN18 Facebook page. International media also joined online including CONAN Daily.

Jakrajutatip is the founder and chief executive officer of JKN Global Group, the new owner of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. Mouawad is a member of the fourth generation of the Mouawad family, which owns and runs the  luxury jeweler Mouawad.

“As we are stepping into the new era of women’s empowerment, the Miss Universe Organization will continue to be a global organization run by women for women with a promise to serve as an inspirational platform that celebrates diverse women, supporting them to realize their ambition and build self-confidence, while evolving the brand over time to be more relevant and appealing to the next generation,” Jakapong stated. “Our new ambition is to instill the sense of passion for transformational leadership among us all, with firm belief that everyone can lead, to be successful and achieve their life goals. With this future-oriented approach, the Miss Universe brand is keen to take on a pivotal role in involving and engaging people on a journey toward social inclusion, gender equality and environmental sustainability.”

The partnership between the Miss Universe Organization and Mouawad was formed in 2019. Crowned on December 8, 2019  at the Stage 1 of the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, 29, of South Africa was the first to win the Mouawad crown called Power of Unity.

“It has been an honor to craft a new crown for The Miss Universe Organization and to create a new sparkling chapter in the story of Mouawad Miss Universe crowns,” Mouawad said. “The Mouawad Miss Universe Force for Good Crown is a work of extraordinary craftsmanship, completely crafted and set and by hand total 993 stones setting, featuring 110.83 carat of blue sapphire and 48.24 carat of white diamond in a design that evokes the Miss Universe Organization’s belief in a future forged by women who push the limits of what’s possible and the incredible women from around the world who advocate for positive change.”

Crafted by Mouawad, the Miss Universe 2022 crown is valued at approximately $5.58 million and is called The Crown Number 12: Force for Good. It is the 12th crown of Miss Universe, which started in 1952.

A unique, bespoke work of art and craft, the Force for Good crown has pear-shaped blue sapphires surrounded by diamonds. It emanates Mouawad’s passion for crafting the extraordinary, featuring the meticulous setting of sapphires and diamonds, whose design is replete with symbolism.

Reflecting the point that significant change does not happen in an instant, the base of the crown is set with diamonds symbolizing the status quo. From the base upwards, rippling wave motifs reflect the momentum of change, with their varying sizes portraying that this momentum gains ground gradually through advocacy at different moments and places, to audiences large and small, over time.

The Miss Universe 2022 coronation night will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States on January 14, 2023. A total of 86 women will compete for the crown.
