Sausalito, California police arrest taekwondo instructor Joshua Boyes; Bail set at $100K

Joshua Theodore Boyes, 35, of Richmond, Contra Costa County, California, United States is a martial artist. He was hired by the government of Sausalito, Marin County, California to teach taekwondo at a facility owned by the city.

On March 1, 2023, Boyes allegedly molested a female student, 10, in his class at the facility. On March 3, 2023, the student’s mother reported the crime to the Sausalito Police Department, which immediately investigated the case with the help of Marin County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

When Sausalito Police Department officers interviewed Boyes on March 5, 2023, he admitted to sexual activity with the child. He was arrested, booked into the Marin County Jail in San Rafael, Marin County and charged with lewd acts with a minor child and oral copulation with a minor child. 

Bail for Boyes was set at $100,000. The Sausalito Police Department is concerned that there could be more victims.

Sausalito was incorporated on September 4, 1893. The city has three sister cities namely Cascais, Portugal; Sakaide, Kagawa, Japan and Viña del Mar, Chile.

On May 23, 1986, actor and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Sterling Hayden died at age 70 in Sausalito. Joe Burns is the incumbent mayor of the city.
