Abby Choi biography: 13 things about Hong Kong socialite, fashion icon

Abby Choi Tin-fung was a socialite and a fashion icon from Hong Kong. She has two sons and two daughters.

A regular attendee of the Paris Fashion Week in Paris, France, Choi was featured in various magazines including Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. Here are 13 more things about her:

  1. She and Alex Kwong were both 18 when they got married in 2012. In the same year, she gave birth to their son.
  2. In 2014, she and Kwong welcomed their daughter.
  3. In 2015, Kwong’s father Kwong Kau, who was a police sergeant, retired from the police force. Alex’s brother Anthony Kwong worked as her chauffeur even after she and Alex divorced.
  4. After divorcing Alex, she started a relationship with TamJai Yunnan Mixian founder’s son Tam Chuk-Kwan. In 2016, she and Tam welcomed their daughter. On December 9, 2016, she and Tam held a wedding ceremony but did not register their marriage. She and Tam have two children together.
  5. In March 2017, she visited Nara, Japan.
  6. On January 11, 2018, she met Pharrell Williams, then 45, at a Chanel party in Hong Kong.
  7. On April 12, 2018, she took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with Korean-American singer Jessica Jung, then 29.
  8. In 2019, she and Tam welcomed their son. On November 11, 2019, she took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with Chinese rapper Lay Zhang, then 28.
  9. After she and Alex divorced, she continued to provide for him and his family. She bought a Kadoorie Hill property in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, Hong Kong under Kau’s name. Kau and Kau’s wife Jenny Li lived in the property, which has a market value of HK$45 million (US$5.73 million). In 2022, she expressed her intention to sell the property, which angered his parents.

  12. On February 21, 2023, she was reported missing. She and Anthony were supposed to pick up her daughter that day. On February 24, 2023, police found her limbs inside a refrigerator in a unit on the ground floor of a three-story house at Lung Mei Tsuen village in Tai Po, Hong Kong. Kau rented the unfurnished house, which was equipped with an electric saw and a meat grinder. Kau, then 65, Li, then 63, and Anthony, then 31, were arrested.
  13. She died at age 28. Her head, torso and hands are still missing. At around 1:00 p.m. on February 25, 2023, Alex was arrested at the waterfront of Tung Chung, Hong Kong. On February 26, 2023, a woman, then 47, was arrested in connection with her murder. On February 27, 2023, Kau, Anthony and Alex were charged with her murder while Li was charged with perverting the course of justice. On March 7, 2023, another woman, then 29, accused of assisting a suspect in her killing was arrested in mainland China.
