How Iron Mountain, Michigan’s Adam Murray caused schools to go into soft lockdown

Adam Murray, 24, lives in an apartment in Iron Mountain, Dickinson County, Michigan, United States. He is accused of sending multiple Snapchat messages containing child sexually abusive material through his cellular phone.

Murray also sent threats via the cellular phone that he was going to kill his mother and to be a school shooter, according the Iron Mountain Police Department. He did not name a particular school.

On the morning of April 11, 2023, the IMPD received a report from the Green Bay Police Department about Murray’s threats. The threats caused schools in Dickinson County and Iron County, Michigan to go into a soft lockdown for a couple of hours.

At around 9:00 a.m., IMPD officers entered Murray’s apartment in Iron Mountain and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Dickinson County Jail in Iron Mountain.

In the afternoon, Murray appeared before Dickinson County District Court Judge Julie LaCost via Zoom for arraignment. She set a $1 million cash or surety bond.

Murray was charged with four felonies relating to an online school threat and distributing child sexually abusive activity or material. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference April 25, 2023 and for a preliminary examination May 2, 2023.
