Michelle Jacoby, 27, of Riverside Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, United States worked at Riverside High School in Riverside Township as a special education teacher and a teacher’s aide. She also served as the school’s marching band director.
While working at Riverside High School, Jacoby allegedly started a sexual relationship with a freshman, then 14, in 2021. She allegedly had multiple encounters with him over a two-year period.
On May 2, 2023, the student disclosed the relationship to another teacher. Immediately after, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office was informed and an investigation began.
In the evening, Jacoby was arrested. She was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, almost all of the encounters between Jacoby and the student happened at her home in Riverside. The prosecutor’s office also said the relationship has since ended.
While Jacoby knew the relationship was inappropriate due to her position, she engaged in the relationship anyway, she admitted. To protect the victim’s identity, the prosecutor’s office withheld other details about him.
On May 3, 2023, Jacoby attended a court hearing and was released afterwards. She has yet to be convicted in the case.
