Dallas, Texas’s Mauricio Garcia opens fire at Allen Premium Outlets, shot by police officer

Mauricio Garcia of Dallas, Texas, United States has died. He was 33.

While the Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Collin County, Texas was filled with throngs of shoppers at around 3:30 p.m. on May 6, 2023, Garcia opened fire at the mall. At least 15 people were shot.

At the time of the shooting, a police officer was at the mall on an unrelated assignment. Upon hearing gunfire, the officer rushed toward it and shot Garcia, who was wearing a mask and police-like attire, outside an H&M store at the mall.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the mall. Among the 15 people he shot, six were also pronounced dead at the mall and two later died in the hospital.

Three of the known survivors are in critical condition while the other four are in stable condition. They range in age from 5 to 61.

At around 4:30 p.m., the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed the active shooter situation at the mall and sent agents to the crime scene. At around 5:30 p.m., the Allen Police Department posted on its social media accounts to avoid the area until further updates.

At around 6:30 p.m., Allen Police Department chief Brian Harvey declared at a news conference that there is no ongoing threat to the community. He said the gunman acted alone.
