Spain’s Daniel Sancho accused of killing Colombia’s Edwin Arrieta in Surat Thani

Dr. Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a native of Santa Cruz de Lorica, Cordoba, Colombia, has died. He was 44.

Arrieta was an aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon based in Monteria, Cordoba. He was in a romantic relationship with Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 29, of Spain.

Daniel is a chef. His parents Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre, 48, and Silvia Bronchalo, 48, are actors.

Recently, Arrieta and Daniel went to Thailand. It has yet to be confirmed if the former went there before or after the latter arrived there on July 31, 2023 as a tourist.

On August 1, 2023, Daniel allegedly bought a knife, rubber gloves and a bottle of cleaning agent. Later, he and Arrieta allegedly argued over sex and money.

On August 2, 2023, Daniel fired a boat for $1,000 from two women who run a kayak rental store close on Koh Pha-ngan in Surat Thani, Thailand. On August 3, 2023, hips, thighs and other human body parts were found at a landfill on the island and shortly after, Daniel went to a police station to report Arrieta missing.

According to Thai police, deoxyribonucleic acid tests of the remains proved them to be of Arrieta. On August 4, 2023, Thai police interviewed Daniel and arrested him after he admitted to killing his lover.

On August 6, 2023, Daniel led Thai police seven sites where he allegedly disposed of Arrieta’s dismembered body in plastic bags. The Spanish chef allegedly cut the Colombian surgeon’s body into 14 pieces.

On August 7, 2023, Daniel appeared in court in Thailand and pleaded guilty to the murder of Arrieta. The Spanish chef is being held in a prison on Koh Samui in Surat Thani while authorities are still searching for the rest of the Colombian surgeon’s remains.
