Marvin Rex Lake, 27, of El Paso, Texas, United States was sentenced to life in prison on April 3, 2024. He was convicted of the capital murder of Ahren Joshua DeHart, who was born on March 2, 2020 to Brandon Robert Dehart and Araya Dae Coffey.
Lake and Robert were close friends. They first met when they were stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso.
At the U.S. Army post, Lake and Robert worked in the same department. Lake’s girlfriend and Coffey worked together at the same hospital.
On April 12, 2021, Lake was babysitting Ahren and several other children in El Paso while their mothers were at work. When Coffey arrived to pick Ahren up, he was unconscious.
Ahren was rushed to El Paso Children’s Medical Center in El Paso and placed on life support. On April 16, 2021, he died.
On April 19, 2021, Lake was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility in El Paso with no bond. He admitted to performing some wrestling moves on Ahren.
At one point, according to Lake, Ahren hit his head on a futon. Aside from a fractured skull, the toddler also had multiple injuries.
