Ben Simmons medically cleared, starts rehab in Miami, Florida

Ben Simmons, 26, has been medically cleared. Because of a nerve impingement in his back, the Australian athlete playing for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association had two back surgeries.

Ben Simmons’ surgeries

Due to a herniated L-4 disc, Simmons had his first surgery at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California, USA on May 5, 2022. After that, he played 57 out of 192 regular NBA season games for the Brooklyn Nets.

On March 14, 2024, Simmons underwent a microscopic partial discectomy at Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, Florida, USA. In consultation with Dr. Barth Green, Dr. Timur Urakov performed the procedure.

Simmons has started his rehab in Miami. He is expected to participate in summer workouts and pickup games and make $40.3 million in the next NBA season, which will start in October 2024 and end in April 2025.

Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to Dave Simmons and Julie Simmons, Ben played basketball and Australian rules football when he was a teenager. After graduating from Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, Ben attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA from 2015 to 2016.

On July 3, 2016, Ben signed his rookie scale contract with the NBA team Philadelphia 76ers. On February 10, 2022, he, Andre Drummond, Seth Curry and two future first-round picks were traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for James Harden and Paul Millsap.
