Representing Italy, Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri, 27, was one of the winners at “ONE: A New Era.” It marked his first victory in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.

“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 MMA bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the fifth bout of the evening, Lasiri faced Hiroki Akimoto, 26, of Japan in a kickboxing contest in the flyweight division with Atsushi Onari as the referee.

After three three-minute rounds, the kickboxing contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Onari raised the hand of Lasiri, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: A New Era” improved Lasiri’s professional kickboxing and Muay Thai record to 38 wins and 9 losses. On the other hand, Akimoto now has 20 wins and 1 loss.

Including Japan and Italy, 19 countries were represented at “ONE: A New Era,” which is the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in Japan. The other countries represented were Australia, Brazil, China, Cyprus, France, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.

Lasiri was the only fighter from Italy on the “ONE: A New Era” card.  Akimoto was one of the six fighters who represented Japan.
