Muhammad “The Punisher” Mokaev, 19, and Glenn McVeigh, 23, will battle it out at “BRAVE CF 37” in Stockholm, Sweden on August 1, 2020. Both are BRAVE Combat Federation debutantes who are also making a professional mixed martial arts debut.
Featuring 14 professional MMA bouts, BRAVE CF will hold “BRAVE CF 37” in partnership with Swedish MMA promotion Bulldog Fight Night. The 10th match of the evening is a flyweight bout between Mokaev and McVeigh.
BRAVE CF had a hard time finding an opponent for Mokaev as there were six opponent changes before booking a fight between him and McVeigh. Before the announcement, BRAVE CF president Mohammed “The Hawk” Shahid stated, “We’re closing in on a very promising athlete that I think will test Mokaev and we hope everything is in place for us to make an announcement and give the fans what they want to see.”
Originally from Dagestan, Russia, Mokaev is fighting out of London, England, United Kingdom. He was born on July 30, 2000 and he holds an amateur MMA record of 23 wins and 0 loss.
On the other hand, McVeigh holds an amateur MMA record of 11 wins and 5 losses. He was born on April 2, 1997 and is fighting out of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
“This kid is legit,” Shahid said of Mokaev. “There’s no doubt about it. He’s a two-time amateur world champion and he’s starting his professional career with BRAVE CF but it has been very difficult to find him an opponent.”
“Guys simply don’t want to fight him,” the BRAVE CF president continued. “I’ve been promoting fights for years now and I’ve never had that much difficulty, to be honest.”
The bout was made after McVeigh took to social media to personally call out Mokaev and ask Shahid for the chance to face the undefeated Dagestani-English MMA fighter. The posts by the Belfast native and his unwavering confidence motivated the BRAVE CF president to quickly come to terms with both parties and make the fight official.
“This kid has got a true fighter mentality,” Shahid said of McVeigh. “You came and asked for this like a true brave-hearted fighter. This is what we look for and this kid deserves his shot at his dream. Making it official: Glenn McVeigh vs Muhammad Mokaev. The fight is on.”
On July 29, 2020, McVeigh claimed he was going to beat Mokaev, who was a two-time International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Champion. The Northern Irish fighter stated, “I hear the bum Muhammad Mokaev has been looking for a fight.”
“I’ve been calling this guy out for three years but we never met at IMMAF,” McVeigh said of Mokaev. “Now, hopefully, we can meet at pros. If Shahid and BRAVE CF give me the chance, I’ll smash this kid in three days.”
“I can smash him in three months, three days, three hours,” the Belfast native continued. “He can shove his three-month camp up his ****. I’m going to f*** murder him. I’ll smash him.”
