Reinier “The Dutch Knight” de Ridder, 30, of the Netherlands is the new ONE Middleweight World Champion. The Dutch mixed martial artist is the fifth MMA fighter to hold the ONE Championship belt.

Training out of Combat Brothers in Breda, Netherlands, De Ridder challenged then ONE Middleweight World Champion “Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang (အောင်လအန်ဆန်း), 35, of Myanmar at “ONE: Inside the Matrix.” It was the Burmese defending champion’s fourth title defense in the division.

De Ridder is 193cm tall. Aung, who is 8cm shorter, trains at Sanford MMA in Florida, United States.

“ONE: Inside the Matrix” featured six MMA matches, four of which are title bouts. It was the first sporting event in Singapore that allows for a limited live audience since it moved into the second phase of its reopening amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The title bout between de Ridder and Aung was the main event of the evening. Yuji Shimada served as the referee.

Aung opened up the action with a fast uppercut that just missed the mark. De Ridder countered with a quick shot from range, taking the Burmese defending champion down to the mat.

A swift transition to the back secured with a body triangle offered de Ridder plenty of opportunities to work for the finish with most of the round to go. After several attempts, a rear-naked choke was in deep.

Shimada put a stop to the title bout after 3 minutes and 26 seconds in the first round. De Ridder submitted Aung via rear-naked choke.

With this victory, de Ridder is still an undefeated MMA fighter. On the other hand, Aung is still the reigning ONE Light Heavyweight World Champion.

Winning at “ONE: Inside the Matrix” improved de Ridder’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 0 loss. Aung now has 26 wins, 11 losses, 0 draw and 1 No Contest.

A total of 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Inside the Matrix” namely Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Italy, Moldova, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, the U.S. and Vietnam. Aung and de Ridder solely represented Myanmar and the Netherlands, respectively.

Born on September 7, 1990, de Ridder has been competing professionally as an MMA fighter since 2013. He joined ONE Championship in 2019.

“ONE: Inside the Matrix” marked de Ridder’s fourth fight in ONE Championship. The first three opponents he defeated in the promotion were “King Kong Warrior” Fan Rong, 26, of Harbin, China, Gilberto “Giba” Galvão, 38, of Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil and Leandro “Wolf” Ataides, 33, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
