Miss Universe 2020 predictions: Nova Stevens vs Adline Castelino?

From 2010 to 2019, I and my colleague Erica Diaz Mendoza Lao tried to predict the Miss Universe winners. Before we reveal our Miss Universe 2020 predictions, let’s have a recap of our predictions in the past 10 years:

The elusive predicted winner from 2010 to 2019

  • In 2010, we predicted Venus Raj of the Philippines as the winner and Fonthip Watcharatrakul of Thailand as her runner-up. Raj became fourth runner-up. Watcharatrakul did not place but she won Best National Costume and Miss Photogenic. The eventual winner Ximena Navarrete of Mexico was fourth runner-up in our prediction list.
  • In 2011, we predicted Shamcey Supsup of the Philippines as the winner and Priscila Machado of Brazil as her runner-up. Supsup became third runner-up while Machado was second runner-up. The eventual winner Leila Lopes of Angola was fourth runner-up in our prediction list.
  • In 2012, we predicted Janine Tugonon of the Philippines as the winner and Olivia Culpo of the United States as her runner-up. Culpo ended up as the winner and Tugonon was her runner-up.
  • In 2013, we predicted Erin Brady of the United States as the winner and Yaritza Reyes of Dominican Republic as her runner-up. Both Brady and Reyes finished in the Top 10. The eventual winner Gabriela Isler of Venezuela was second runner-up in our prediction list.
  • In 2014, we predicted Kaci Fennell of Jamaica as the winner and Nia Sanchez of the United States as her runner-up. Fennell ended up as the fourth runner-up while Sanchez was the first runner-up. The eventual winner Paulina Vega of Colombia was number 4 in Jillianina’s list but she was not in Erica’s list and not in the final list.
  • In 2015, we predicted Ariana Miyamoto of Japan as the winner and Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines as her runner-up. Miyamoto finished in the Top 10 while Wurtzbach went on to win the crown with Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia as her runner-up. Gutierrez was third runner-up in our prediction list.
  • In 2016, we predicted Mariam Habach of Venezuela as the winner with Raquel Pelissier of Haiti as her runner-up. Habach was unplaced while Pelissier was first runner-up. The eventual winner Iris Mittenaere was not in Jillianina’s list, Erica’s list and the final prediction list.
  • In 2017, we predicted Laura Gonzalez of Colombia as the winner with Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa as her runner-up. Nel-Peters ended up winning with Gonzalez as her runner-up.
  • In 2018, we predicted Andrea Toscano of Mexico as the winner with Catriona Gray of the Philippines as the runner-up. Gray went on to win while Toscano was unplaced.
  • In 2019, we predicted Birta Abiba Þórhallsdóttir of Iceland as the winner with Sofia Aragon of Mexico as her runner-up. Þórhallsdóttir finished in the Top 10 while Aragon was second runner-up. The eventual winner Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was number 2 in Jillianina’s list but was in the Top 10 in our final list.

As you can see, all of our predicted winners and runners-up did place except for Venezuela’s Mariam Habach in 2016 and Mexico’s Andrea Toscano in 2018. However, we have yet to correctly predict the titleholder although for several times, our predicted first runner-up ended up winning.

We hope and would like to claim that 2020 is finally our year! As usual, I and Erica scored the candidates separately based on the available photos, videos and information of the candidates available online.
