Ty Gerard Wicker Garbin is a white man from Michigan, United States. He was involved in the thwarted plot to kidnap 49th Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.

3. He has a mechanic’s certificate for airframe and powerplant. He previously worked for SkyWest Airlines.
4. He grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan.
5. He was quiet, according to Gary Hovsepian, his neighbor in Hartland Township, Livingston County, Michigan.
6. Aside from Wyandotte and Hartland Township, he lived in various parts of Michigan including Van Buren Township and Belleville.
7. In 2019, he moved from Wyandotte to a mobile home in Hartland Meadows manufactured housing community in Hartland Township, which he shared with an older man and woman. 
8. On June 10, 2020, he met with his fellow kidnapping conspirators in the basement of the Vac Shack, a vacuum repair shop on Division Avenue in Wyoming, Kent County, Michigan. It was the temporary residence of Adam Fox, one of the leaders of the group. During the meeting, they planned to assault the Michigan State Capitol, counter law enforcement first responders and use Molotov cocktails to destroy police vehicles. They scheduled to meet again and conduct firearms and tactical training in the first week of July 2020.
9. On July 18, 2020, he met his fellow kidnapping conspirators in Ohio, USA to discuss attacking a Michigan State Police facility. He suggested shooting up Whitmer’s vacation home in the Western District of Michigan. He told the group that he e did not want to go after the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing, Michigan.
10. On August 9, 2020, he and his co-conspirators participated in a tactical training in Munith, Michigan.
11. On August 23, 2020, he met seven co-conspirators in Lake Orion, Michigan. All attendees were required to bring personal documents to confirm their identities. The group talked about concerns about being infiltrated by law enforcement.
12. On October 8, 2020, he was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping in federal court in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During the court session, he asked for a court-appointed attorney, citing his financial status. Represented by Paul Mitchell, an attorney based in Grand Rapids, he was held without bond pending a bond hearing and a preliminary examination on October 13, 2020.
13. He was 25 years old when he was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker sentenced to 75 months in prison on August 25, 2021 followed by three years of probation and a $2,500 fine. During the hearing, he apologized to his family and friends and to Whitmer, who was not present.
