Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito, 22, of Blue Point, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States was found dead in Teton County, Wyoming, USA on September 19, 2021. She was the girlfriend of Brian Laundrie, 23, of North Port, Sarasota County, Florida, USA.
In 2019, Petito moved to Laundrie’s house in North Port where they lived with his parents Christopher John “Chris” Laundrie, 62, and Roberta Maria Vinci Laundrie, 55. Brian’s sister Cassandra M. “Cassie” Laundrie, 32, lives in a different house in North Port.
On July 2, 2021, Brian and Gabby started their cross-country trip. Between August 30, 2021 and September 1, 2021, he allegedly used a Capital One Bank debit card and a personal identification number for accounts that did not belong to him for charges over $1,000.
On September 1, 2021, Brian drove Gabby’s van back to North Port without her. His parents reported him missing on September 17, 2021.
On September 23, 2021, Brian was charged with unauthorized use of a debit card and an arrest warrant was issued for him. It was recently revealed that the Capital One Bank card he allegedly used weeks before Gabby was found dead belonged to her.
On October 5, 2021, CBS aired a “Dr. Phil” episode featuring an interview of Dr. Phil McGraw, 71, with Gabby’s parents and stepparents. The two couples were accompanied by their lawyer Richard Stafford.
“He ran,” Stafford said of Brian. “He stole her credit card. He used her credit card to get home and then ran from the police. That’s going to show what he was thinking.”
On September 24, 2021, the U.S. District of Wyoming issued a warrant of arrest for Brian. A grand jury indicted him for use of unauthorized devices.
“I’m sure the FBI has a lot more evidence than we have,” Stafford told McGraw. “You could look at his state of mind by his actions.”
Also on October 5, 2021, ABC aired a “Good Morning America” interview with Cassie. She does not know where Brian is and if she did, she would turn him in.
According to Cassie, the last time she saw Brian and heard from him was on September 6, 2021 when they went to Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County, Florida with their parents. Cassie described it as a regular visit.
In hindsight, Cassie frustrated that she did not pick up on anything. She said she wants Gabby’s family to know that her heart is with them and they deserve answers.
“I don’t know if my parents are involved,” Cassie said. “I think if they are, then they should come clean.”
