April Simpkins is an African American professional speaker, entrepreneur, human resources consultant and beauty queen. Her experience and expertise, coupled with her continued study of human resources trends, have made her a trusted advisor in the business community. 

As a consultant, Simpkins has helped more than 1000 business owners shape and develop their human capital. She is passionate about supporting small businesses.

Simpkins and Rodney Kryst have four children namely Page Kryst, Cheslie Kryst, Asa Kryst and Chandler Kryst. Simpkins and David Simpkins have two children namely Jet Simpkins and Brooklyn Simpkins.

  1. From 1990 to 1992, she attended Jackson College in Jackson, Michigan, United States where she studied accounting and music.
  2. She won Ms. Petite North Carolina 1995.
  3. From October 2001 to May 2019, she was the president of HRS&S Consulting, LLC in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
  4. She won Mrs. North Carolina US 2002.
  5. In June 2007, she received her professional in human resources (PHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).
  6. In January 2015, she obtained her Society for Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification.
  7. In 2017, she joined the human resources advisory board of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA and became the treasurer of the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce‘s board of directors.
  8. From January 2018 to December 2020, she was the diversity director of SC SHRM State Council.
  9. In May 2018, she founded Thrive Recruiting and Development.
  10. In January 2019, she joined the advisory board of the South Carolina Small Business Development Centers. In May 2019, she became the chief human resources officer of Total HR in Charlotte.
  11. In October 2020, she became a member of the Charlotte Business Journal Leadership Trust.
  12. From January 2021 to December 2021, she was the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee chair of Greenville SHRM.
  13. In December 2021, she and her daughter Chelsie went to Eilat, Israel where Chelsie served as a Miss Universe 2021 preliminary competition judge and co-presenter. She was 53 years old when Chelsie died on January 30, 2022 in New York City, New York, USA.
