Maredudd Thomas, 24, of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom is one fight away from becoming the World Boxing Council Youth Welterweight Champion. He is set to fight for the vacant title against his fellow undefeated boxer Sahir Iqbal, 24, of Bolton, Lancashire, England, UK.

Thomas and Iqbal will battle it out at “MTK Fight Night” at Production Park Studios in South Kirkby, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The show will be aired live on August 12, 2020 in the United States on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and worldwide on IFL TV.

“Winning this title will get my name out there in the welterweight division and I’d like to be able to keep challenging for titles after this,” Thomas said. “Getting these titles is what boxers work so hard for and it’s given me more motivation than ever to bring this belt back home to Cardiff. Training has been different for this fight due to the lockdown but I like using the outdoors as my gym.”

“No matter what I’ve found a way to train,” the Cardiff native continued. “I come from a family with four older brothers who are into boxing and have been able to take me on the pads and keep me focused on the challenge I have in front of me.”

The WBC Youth strap has previously been around the waist of the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Devin Haney. Thomas holds a professional boxing record of 11 wins and 0 loss while Iqbal has 7 wins and 0 loss.

The upcoming “MTK Fight Night” show at Production Park Studios will be headlined by Jono Carroll vs Maxi Hughes. Also on the fight card are Sean McComb vs Siar OzgulCraig MacIntyre vs Ishmael Ellis and Pierce O’Leary vs Jacob Quinn.

It kicks off a brilliant run of “MTK Fight Night” events throughout the summer. Lewis Crocker, Lee McGregor, Gary Cully, Akeem Ennis Brown and Dan Azeez are expected to be in action over the coming months.
