In partnership with Swedish MMA promotion Bulldog Fight Night (BFN), BRAVE CF held “BRAVE CF 40” in Stockholm, Sweden on August 24, 2020. In the main event of the evening, Machaev fought Shoaib “The Assassin” Yousaf, 24, of Lancashire, England in the featherweight division.

BRAVE CF initially announced that “BRAVE CF 40” would be held in Poland on September 5, 2020 before confirming Stockholm as the venue. The Swedish capital also hosted “BRAVE CF 37” on August 1, 2020, “BRAVE CF 38” on August 8, 2020 and “BRAVE CF 39” on August 15, 2020, all of which were held in partnership with BFN.

Yousaf was coming out of a successful BRAVE CF debut. In his promotional debut at “BRAVE CF 35” at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium Sports Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 27, 2019, he submitted Hassan Talal of Jordan.

Originally, Yousaf  was supposed to fight Kim Tae Kyun (김태균) of South Korea at “BRAVE CF 36” at the BT Arena in Cluj Napoca, Romania on April 13, 2020. However, the bout was cancelled because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“BRAVE CF 36” was held at Berăria H in Bucharest on July 27, 2020. The match between Yousaf and Kim was not included in the card.

At “BRAVE CF 36,” Machaev knocked out Ciprian “The Transylvanian Warrior” Maris, 29, of Cluj-Napoca in the featherweight division. After winning at “BRAVE CF 40,” the Austrian fighter gets close to a shot for the vacant title in the division.
