Velimurad Alkhasov, 27, of Grozny, Chechen Republic, Russia and Sean “Shorty Rock” Santella, 33, of Whippany, New Jersey, United States made their debut in the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation at “Brave 14.” They competed in the flyweight division.

Featuring nine bouts, “Brave 14” took place at the Omnisports Indoor Club of Tangier in Tangier, Morocco on August 18, 2018. In the fifth bout of the evening, Alkhasov defeated Santella via unanimous decision.

Winning at “Brave 14” made Alkhasov still an undefeated mixed martial artist. Defeating Santella improved the Russian fighter’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 0 loss.

This is also a redemptive for Alkhasov although he has never lost in the cage. He was embroiled in controversy in his most recent bout, which took place at “ACB 43: Battle of the Sura” on August 20, 2016 at the Diesel Arena in Penza, Penza Oblast, Russia.

Alkhasov was the reigning Absolute Championship Berkut Flyweight Champion when he feigned injury at “ACB 43: Battle of the Sura,” which forced an end to his title defense against Rasul Albaskhanov, 28, who is also from Grozny. It was the fifth and last ACB bout of the former.

Before the bout against Albaskhanov, Alkhasov defeated four ACB opponents. Alkhasov knocked out Elnar Ibragimov, 21, of Baku, Azerbaijan via punches at “ACB 11: Vol. 1” on November 14, 2014, submitted Alexey Pastorov, 32, of Yakutsk, Sakha, Russia via rear-naked choke at “ACB 16: Grand Prix Berkut 2015 Stage 3” on April 17, 2015, defeated Mikael “Hulk” Silander, 32, of Espoo, Finland via majority decision at “ACB 20: Sochi” on June 14, 2015 and knocked out Ruslan “The Predator” Abiltarov, 26, of Donetsk, Ukraine via punch at “ACB 26: Grand Prix Final 2015” on November 28, 2015.

The match between Alkhasov and Santella was the only flyweight bout at “Brave 14.” The division currently has no reigning champion.

Losing to Alkhasov downgraded Santella’s professional MMA record to 20 wins and 7 losses. It ended the four-bout winning streak of the fighter from Whippany.
