Model, audio engineer and music producer Janick Maceta del Castillo, 26, was crowned Miss Peru 2020 on November 29, 2020. This made her the official candidate of Peru at Miss Universe 2020.
Including Maceta, a total of 24 candidates competed in Miss Peru 2020. It was the 68th edition of the Peruvian national beauty pageant.
Only three candidates competed in the final round of Miss Peru 2020. Maceta’s fellow finalists were Solange Hermoza Rivera, 25, of La Libertad and Maricielo Gamarra Alvarado, 25, of San Martin.
Agatha Nikita Mego Castro, 23, of Piura and Arlette Rujel, 20, of Callao finished in the Top 5. The latter was crowned Nuestra Latinoamericana Universal Perú 2020.
It was the third time Maceta competed in Miss Peru. She finished in the Top 10 when she competed for the first time in 2016.
Representing Peru, Maceta was first runner-up at Miss Tourism Word 2018 in Malaysia. When she competed in Miss Peru 2019, she was runner-up to Kelin Rivera, 27, of Arequipa, who finished in the Top 10 at Miss Universe 2019.
As Miss Peru 2019 first runner-up, Maceta was crowned Miss Peru Supranational 2019. She was third runner-up at Miss Supranational 2019 in Poland.
Rivera presented the Miss Peru 2020 crown to Maceta along with Jesssica Newton, 54, the director of Organización Miss Perú. Newton represented Peru at Miss Universe 1987 and finished in the Top 10.
Hailing from Lima, Peru, Maceta is currently based in New York, United States. She is one of the founders of the record label Top of New York, which digitizes and produces the musical content of young artists, and is part of the nonprofit Little Heroes Perú, which helps children who have been victims of sexual violence.
Maceta was born in Lima on March 9, 1994. She is 177cm tall.
The date and venue of Miss Universe 2020 coronation night have yet to be announced. If Maceta wins, she will be the second Miss Universe from Peru.
The first one was Gladys Zender, 81, who was born in Lima on October 19, 1939. She was crowned Miss Universe 1957 in California, USA on July 19, 1957.
