Miss Universe 2020 evening gown competition top 20 picks: Natasha Joubert, Adline Castelino, Miqueal-Symone Williams

The Miss Universe 2020 preliminary competition was hosted by Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, 25, and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, 27, who are both from South Africa. The show was held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, United States on May 14, 2020.

A total of 74 countries and territories are represented in the 69th edition of Miss Universe. During the preliminary competition, the candidates charmed the judges and the audience with their elegance and gracefulness while wearing evening gowns right after showcasing their amazing physiques in the swimsuit competition.

Miss Universe is known for favoring fierce walks and aura of confidence. On the other hand, Miss World seems to favor sweet and soft movements and Miss International emphasizes modesty and humility.

To stand out in the Miss Universe swimsuit round, the candidate must showcase her stunning physique by walking and posing fiercely and confidently. But in the evening gown competition, the candidate must show the perfect balance of fierceness and sweetness.

I am very pleased with the performances of the 74 Miss Universe 2020 candidates in the evening gown competition although I cannot pinpoint one candidate who stood out like in the previous editions. For me, these 20 candidates were the fiercest, sweetest and most beautiful in the evening gown round:

  1. Natasha Joubert (South Africa)
  2. Adline Castelino (India)
  3. Miqueal-Symone Williams (Jamaica)
  4. Estefania Soto (Puerto Rico)
  5. Laura Olascuaga (Colombia)
  6. Sarita Reth (Cambodia)
  7. Bianca Lorena Tirsin (Romania)
  8. Janick Maceta del Castillo (Peru)
  9. Mariangel Villasmil Arteaga (Venezuela)
  10. Amanda Obdam (Thailand)
  11. Carmen Jaramillo (Panama)
  12. Ana Marcelo (Nicaragua)
  13. Klára Vavrušková (Czech Republic)
  14. Asya Branch (USA)
  15. Alina Sanko (Russia)
  16. Lenka Nemer (Bolivia)
  17. Vanessa Velasquez (El Salvador)
  18. Rabiya Mateo (Philippines)
  19. Maria Thattil (Australia)
  20. Julia Gama (Brazil)

.

An all-female jury scored the 74 candidates. Only 21 candidates will advance to the quarterfinals during the coronation night on May 16, 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino including the candidate who received the highest votes.

Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico and Miss Universe 1997 Brook Lee were among the judges. They were joined by Colombian economist Tatyana Orozco, 44, Korean-American actress Arden Cho, 35, Canadian television host Keltie Knight and American businesswomen Christine Duffy, 59, Sheryl Adkins-Green, 55, and Deepica Mutyala, 31.
