The Miss Universe 2020 preliminary competition took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, United States on May 14, 2020. The show was hosted by Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, 25, and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, 27, who are both from South Africa.
A total of 74 countries and territories are represented in the 69th edition of Miss Universe. During the preliminary competition, the candidates showcased their amazing physiques while wearing swimsuit before they shifted to elegance and gracefulness in the evening gown competition.
These candidates spent months, if not years, of hard work to achieve those beautiful bodies. But being in great shape is not enough to stand out in the swimsuit competition.
The candidate should walk the runway with just enough confidence, as well, because lack of it will render the beautiful physique useless and having too much of it will turn off the audience. For me, these are the 20 Miss Universe 2020 candidates who did the best performances in the swimsuit competition:
- Adline Castelino (India)
- Anshika Sharma (Nepal)
- Miqueal-Symone Williams (Jamaica)
- Laura Olascuaga (Colombia)
- Estefania Soto (Puerto Rico)
- Sarita Reth (Cambodia)
- Mariangel Villasmil Arteaga (Venezuela)
- Nguyen Tran Khanh Van (Vietnam)
- Asya Branch (USA)
- Natasha Joubert (South Africa)
- Bianca Lorena Tirsin (Romania)
- Janick Maceta del Castillo (Peru)
- Nova Stevens (Canada)
- Kimberly Jimenez (Dominican Republic)
- Ivonne Cerdas (Costa Rica)
- Rabiya Mateo (Philippines)
- Ana Marcelo (Nicaragua)
- Andrea Meza (Mexico)
- Amanda Obdam (Thailand)
- Natalia Piguła (Poland)
An all-female jury scored the 74 candidates. Including the candidate who received the highest votes, only 21 candidates will advance to the quarterfinals during the coronation night on May 16, 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico and Miss Universe 1997 Brook Lee were among the judges. They were joined by Colombian economist Tatyana Orozco, 44, Korean-American actress Arden Cho, 35, Canadian television host Keltie Knight and American businesswomen Christine Duffy, 59, Sheryl Adkins-Green, 55, and Deepica Mutyala, 31.
